About the Owner
Kenneth Modlin is a resident of Rockville, Maryland and the founder/owner of PGL Improvements, Inc. Kenneth started out in high school at the top in his class in welding. Afterward, he became a volunteer fire fighter/EMT where he developed a passion for helping people. For four years he worked with the Department of Transportation in Washington DC in building maintenance to include plumbing, electrical engineering, HVAC and building repair. In 1984, Mr. Modlin joined the Local 5 Iron Workers Union, again rankinging top of the class scoring a 98% on the Journeyman test. The union provided opportunities to learn many skills including the erection of high rise structural steel buildings, He also learned to construct commercial stairs, installation of hand rails, the art of glazing, free standing curtain walls, store fronts and structural steel welding. Willard Hotel, Columbia Squire and the Space Goddard Center are some of the places that these skills were put to use in the Washington DC area.
Kenneth's leadership and precision were finely tuned while working with his fathers company, NGM Welding and Fabrication, for about 4 years. He later became a Plumber/Steam fitter/Welder with Salco Mechanical where he satrted as a helper and within 6 months became foreman of a crew of 6 men. Gaining skills of design/lay out, installation of boiler room systems's, cooling towers, DWV piping, water piping and installation of heating/HVAC and ventilation systems in high rise apartment buildings, he began to consider entreprenuership. It was in Rockville Md that he realized his dream as a business owner. Kenneth has worked at many other trades, each affording on the job training in other areas as he was performing the jobs at hand. His lifetime experiences have molded him into a lead man/pace setter/problem solver and a business owner and have ranked him among the best in the industry. Driven by a sense of perfectionism, Mr. Modlin understands that in perfecting a job, his skills must be seen from the eyes of his customer. His design and layout are always to suit his customer, rather than his own taste. He has a natural ability to see what it is that his customer sees.
